Agriculture and Food Security

Agriculture is the most important livelihood sector in Africa, contributing to over 50% of GDP. Food security issues have been on the rise especially in the GHA region where 75% of the land is classified as arid. Consequently, agricultural production and monitoring support decision tools are developed to prioritize efforts towards improving vulnerable parts of agricultural systems.

Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts which address the following topics:

  • In season crop monitoring using remote sensing

  • Crop yield, intensity, acreage estimation using remote sensing methodologies for small holder farms

  • Application of crop insurance for small holder farmers

  • Crop modelling and suitability mapping

  • Surface water mapping

  • Rangeland productivity monitoring

  • Assessing scalable area specific crop growth dynamics
